history of Altamaha-Ha

Altamaha-Ha better know as "Altie", is said to be a prehistoric sea serpernt that lives in the Altamaha River. Altie is reported to be 20 to 30 feet in length, as thick as a man's body, and have multiple humps and dark skin. Reports of Altie date back to the Tama Indians who told tales of the huge water serpent that hissed and bellowed. The first modern reports were in the 1920's by a group of lumberjacks. In 1940, Altie was sighted again by a group of Boyscouts, and again in 1959 by officials of Reidsville State Prison. Reports of Alite have risen since the 1970's, could this be due to the rapid population growth.
